The industry skipped from IPv4 to IPv6, leaving IPv5 and the Internet Stream Protocol to the annals of history — a data streaming experiment rendered unnecessary by broadband
IPv5 wasn't a general purpose Internet Protocol like IPv4 or IPv6, and was never ratified as such, but it would give birth to the first VOIP hardware.

A New Algorithm Beats Dijkstra's Time For The Shortest Path To Any Point In A Network
When Edsger W. Dijkstra published his algorithm in 1959, computer networks were barely a thing. The algorithm in question found the shortest path between any two nodes on a graph, with a variant refining it to finding the shortest routes to all other nodes from a single source node. This would prove incredibly useful as computer networks expanded and evolved into the internet we all know and love. It says a lot about the algorithm that it's still widely used in modern networks and is integrated into the Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) routing protocol, which uses Dijkstra's Shortest Path First algorithm to map efficient routes through complex networks.

Build a Personal Server and Saved Thousands on Cloud Storage
Would you pay $3,600 a year just to store your files? That's the price Google quoted for 20TB of cloud storage, an eye-watering sum that forces you to question the value of convenience. For many, the idea of paying such a steep subscription fee feels less like a service and more like a trap. But what if there was another way? What if you could take back control, save thousands of dollars, and learn something new in the process? That's exactly what one determined individual did by ditching Google Drive and building a personal server instead.

Data that is stored and not used has a carbon footprint. How companies can manage dark data better
In today's world, huge amounts of data are being created all the time, yet more than half of it is never used. It stays in silos, or isn't managed, or can't be accessed because systems change, or isn't needed because business priorities change. This "dark data" accumulates in servers and storage devices, consuming electricity and inflating the digital carbon footprint.
