Quantum Machines Discusses Direct Digital Synthesis for Large-Scale Quantum Computing
In developing the OPX1000, a controller fit for the ever-growing quantum processors counting 1,000 qubits and beyond, we had to think deeply about every detail that impairs scalability. Our recently unveiled OPX1000 module for microwave generation (MW-FEM) generates pulses up to 10.5 GHz directly, without analog oscillators or mixers. The choice of technology to reach microwave frequencies is not trivial.

A physical qubit with built-in error correction
There has been significant progress in the field of quantum computing. Big global players, such as Google and IBM, are already offering cloud-based quantum computing services. However, quantum computers cannot yet help with problems that occur when standard computers reach the limits of their capacities because the availability of qubits or quantum bits, i.e., the basic units of quantum information, is still insufficient.

Researchers look to the human eye to boost computer vision efficiency
Conventional silicon architecture has taken computer vision a long way, but Purdue University researchers are developing an alternative path--taking a cue from nature--that they say is the foundation of an artificial retina. Like our own visual system, the device is geared to sense change, making it more efficient in principle than the computationally demanding digital camera systems used in applications like self-driving cars and autonomous robots.

Solving computationally complex problems with probabilistic computing
According to computational complexity theory, mathematical problems have different levels of difficulty in the context of their solvability. While a classical computer can solve some problems (P) in polynomial time--i.e., the time required for solving P is a polynomial function of the input size--it often fails to solve NP problems that scale exponentially with the problem size and thus cannot be solved in polynomial time.

Character Recognition by Feature Point Extraction
The ability to identify machine printed characters in an automated or a semi-automated manner has obvious applications in numerous fields. Since creating an algorithm with a one hundred percent correct recognition rate is quite probably impossible in our world of noise and different font styles, it is important to design character recognition algorithms with these failures in mind so that when mistakes are inevitably made, they will at least be understandable and predictable to the person working with the program.
